Black Joy Rising

The Treasure Hunt is truly full of Black treasures throughout Oakland. A piece we’re excited is our floral installations which pays homage to our deeply rooted connection to the earth, and offers folks a naturally beautiful space to bask in their Black joy.

I am an Oakland native that wants nothing more for my city than prosperity. My father taught me there is strength in being black. That strength is what gives me my joy!

I'm so proud of all the things this squad has created for the culture this year. Nothing can stop Black joy. No matter what the world throws our way, we stay shining.

I'm continuing to volunteer to help keep Black Joy alive during these unprecedented times.

My Black Joy is building with this community. It's been the greatest joy of my life to help digitally tell the story of this organization!

Black Joy Parade exemplifies the power of collaboration, creativity and community. It's more than an event, it's an energy that refreshes my spirit annually and throughout the year.

My Black Joy is community! Being able to help create something in Oakland for us, by us fills my cup.

Black Joy Parade has brought me so much joy. The team is full of volunteers who love our community and each other. We’re family. We learn from each other, laugh together and work hard. Working to give the community something so beautiful with this team is what makes me whole.

It feels so good to be a part of such an incredible team that is committed to celebrating Black joy and community.
