ABOUT

At the height of the 2020 racial justice protests, the streets of downtown Oakland were filled with Black art painted, drawn and printed on walls, windows and boards.

Immediately iconic, this art represents an important moment, a powerful movement and a generation of people committed to the fight for Black lives. But because of how the work was created, most of it was destined to come down, and in some cases to never be seen again.

To preserve the work and support the artists behind it, Black Joy Parade X Red Bull teamed up to launch Artist Lift Off, commissioning a handful of Black artists to digitally recreate their work which we then applied to various surfaces made to move (posters, bags, coolers). This will not only bring more exposure to the art and its meaning, but help support Black artists who often struggle to make ends meet as a working artist in the Bay.

When we’re sad, their work lifts us.
When we’re in pain, it heals us.
When we’re happy, it reflects and amplifies our joy.

This program is just one part of Black Joy Parade’s ongoing dedication to support Black artists and elevate creative expression as a way to find more joy in our lives.  To support us and our mission please share these pieces on social media and donate here.
